Dental Crowns
A cracked or weakened tooth doesn't mean losing it. A custom crown brings back its strength, shape, and natural appearance.

What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a custom cap that covers and protects a weakened or damaged tooth.
Crowns are often used after large fillings, cracks, grinding damage or root canal treatment.
Treatment steps
The crown process
A crown is usually completed over two appointments, with a temporary crown worn in between.
We shape the tooth, take an impression, fit a temporary crown, then cement the final crown once it is ready.

The tooth is shaped and an impression is taken for the final crown.

The permanent crown is cemented in place and your bite is checked.
Common questions
Do I need a crown or will a filling do?
Smaller areas of damage can often be repaired with a filling. A crown is usually better when the tooth is cracked, heavily filled or weakened.
How much does a dental crown cost?
The cost depends on the material used and how much work the tooth needs first. We will provide a quote before treatment begins.
How many appointments does a crown take?
Usually two appointments. The first prepares the tooth and the second fits the final crown.
Does getting a crown hurt?
The tooth is numbed during treatment, so you should not feel pain. Mild sensitivity afterwards can happen and usually settles.
How long does a dental crown last?
Most crowns last well over ten years with good care, regular check-ups and healthy gums.
Is a crown the same as a cap?
Yes. A cap is the older everyday word for a dental crown.
